Wendy Jones - Artist Profile
Brought
up and educated in Cumbria and the Northeast, Wendy
specialised in Art while studying in Durham to be a
secondary school teacher. After gaining a Distinction,
she spent a year in London, studying Art and Pottery
while taking a year-long drawing course at Camberwell
School of Art.
After qualifying, Wendy soon moved into primary education,
eventually becoming a Head Teacher and gaining a MA.
Nevertheless she continued to paint and develop her
distinctive styles.
Fascinated by design concepts, Wendy has been
influenced by patterns and designs in Middle Eastern
and Oriental fabrics and carpets, by native Australian
dreamtime styles, and lately by the natural world. Her
work shows an astonishing diversity of appearance and
theme but always celebrates her love of colour - sometimes
gentle, sometimes dramatic, always deeply relevant to
her subject.
Wendy lives in North Yorkshire, painting with oils, acrylics, and mixed media, and creating her Venetian style carnival masks. Wendy has exhibited in the Northeast, the Midlands
and Yorkshire; her work has been sold to private collections
in Britain and abroad. She has undertaken several private
commissions.
In January 2008, Wendy moved her studio from Farfield Mill Arts and Heritage Centre to Unit A2, Sedbury Hall Stables, near Richmond, North Yorkshire. It is down a drive after turning left off the westbound A66, near Scotch Corner on the A1.
